Tributes pour in for African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) Deputy President Lungi Mnganga-Gcabashe.
Mnganga-Gcabashe died at the age of 64 at her home in Westville, KwaZulu-Natal, after suffering from a short illness.
Described as a resilient and fearless leader and human rights activist, Gcabashe was a Frontline fighter when a state of emergency was declared in KwaZulu-Natal, when the Apartheid regime declared a “Freedom or death” mandate.
Gcabashe served in the regional executive committee of the ANCWL and formed part of the first provincial executive committee.
Among various accolades, she was also elevated in 2012 to form part of the ANC’s National Executive Committee.
“The ANC Women’s League and the broader Mass Democratic Movement are poorer without this colossal woman who was fearless in combat and whose resilience never depleted. We send our deepest condolences to her family and may her revolutionary soul rest in eternal peace,” said the Secretary General of the ANCWL, Nokuthula Nqaba.
