Top Billing Presenter Search: Who Will Win?

Top Billing Presenter Search: Who Will Win?

Mzansi’s most prestigious television talent search has boiled down to an intense, high-stakes showdown between Homba Mazaleni and Karen Mthethwa.

Following a brutal Top 10 elimination on SABC 3 (S3), the nationwide competition has narrowed to five finalists, but public consensus confirms the crown is a fierce, two-horse race. The nation is split right down the middle as a high-glamour digital sensation squares off against a battle-tested broadcast professional.

Hailing from Dutywa, Homba Mazaleni represents the ultimate aspirational aesthetic. The biokineticist and former Miss South Africa finalist went viral on social media, commanding a massive following with innate camera poise and high-fashion flair.

Standing directly in her path is Soweto-born Karen Mthethwa, a seasoned radio host who won the 2024 YFM presenter search and hosts The Glow Up. Karen counters digital magnetism with effortless microphone handling and technical precision.

This explosive rivalry reached boiling point during a chaotic Expresso live studio takeover where both women outperformed the field. Now, the safety net of group challenges is entirely gone. Their next test marks their first official solo lifestyle presenting challenge under the Top Billing banner.

In order to survive the final cut, Jonathan Boynton-Lee, who is one of the judges, famously noted that he is looking for the legendary ‘Simba factor’ - an honorary reference to the benchmark set by the late Simba Mhere.

Mhere rose to fame after winning the nationwide Top Billing Presenter Search in 2010 and is still celebrated for his infectious charm, warmth, and command of the camera. His promising career was tragically cut short when he passed away in a car accident in 2015 at the age of 26.

Top Billing airs every Thursday at 19:00 on S3 and although the date for the winner announcement is yet to be announced, it is expected that the winner will be declared in the upcoming weeks.

Whether judges choose the viral magnetism of Homba or the flawless technical power of Karen, this historic clash is set to electrify South African television screens.
