ANC NEC member, Andile Lungisa,has withdrawn his challenge of the ANC candidates list, which saw his name being left out from the list of the party’s Nelson mandela Bay mayoral candidates.
The erstwhile ANC Youth League (ANCYL) deputy president had launched urgent court action against ANC secretary general, Fikile Mbalula, over the exclusion amid the ongoing list chaos.
According to reports, Lungisa accused Mbalula of personally ordering that his name be removed from the candidate list.
In approaching the court he wanted it declared that his exclusion unlawful and instruct the party to reinstate him on its PR list.
Lungisa temporary retreat is influenced by prospects of the looming opportunity to alter the list post the upcoming 4 November 2026 local government elections.
“Immediately after the declaration of elections, there is a period of two days, where parties that must then supplement the list, which is the first process, there is also another second process, before councillors, they take it out of office, you can also submit your list as a part, there are two processes, there is no train smash,” said Lungisa.
