Attempted assassination of former ANC top dog
BLOEMFONTEIN - A concerning incident unfolded in Bloemfontein when an armed man was seen exiting a suspicious white vehicle and approaching the home of a local politician and former ANC provincial secretary Paseka Nompondo.
Nompondo says the incident took place on Saturday evening at around 22:17.
He was home with his family when they noticed a suspicious vehicle doing rounds around his home in a Bloemfontein suburb.
The unknown individual was armed and proceeded to the electricity box to switch the lights off.
Nompondo says he does not know the individual, but it is clear that he is a target.
“It is clear that we are a target of some motive that we don’t know.
“Earlier this month, a crazy man entered my house, he was taken by the police and was later released because he is mentally unstable.
“ The same person came again two weeks later, and now last night an armed man was at my doorstep.
“Because we saw this car and we saw everything on camera, when the lights went off, we did not step outside of the house. If we did I’m certain he was going to shoot us with that gun, Nompondo said.
Nompondo says he cannot confirm whether this attempted assassination is politically motivated or not.
“Its too early to tell the motive”, he said
Nompondo says a case with the South African Police Service cannot be opened because according to the police, no crime was committed.
